“Stay up to date with the latest of what is new on our mission”
09/17/2026- Wow!! It’s been a crazy couple of weeks since I arrived here in Sierra Leone. As if normal missionary life, and beginning of school years weren’t enough, it’s rainy season….. I thought I struggled with network issues before, but rainy season makes it almost impossible to get any service so not only have I not been able to send updates, but I haven’t talked to my family like I would like. But, such is the life of a missionary. Let’s talk about some of the things I’ve done since I arrived. We held a 2 day teacher workshop just after I arrived since school started the following Monday. We were very Blessed to have 2 great lecturers to give our teachers information that will help them become better teachers to our students. This was a 1st for us, and due to the success and positive feedback I think we are going to try and have more regular workshops. It was wonderful to be here when school opened, such a joy to see all the students. That 1st week had its challenges as we had both teachers and students who weren’t back yet. Not to mention we are still finishing the new building so we had to get creative with classes. I’m happy to say we are working out the kinks and things get better every day. We don’t have an end date yet, but we are closer everyday to the new building being completed. I’ve also taken time to meet with some of the women and Sister Margaret from Kono came to visit for a few days. I’ll probably go there sometime in October, in the meantime it’s exciting to see the women come together and build a community. My friend and God willing next president of Sierra Leone was in Makeni, so I was able to visit with him and then the following day he was preaching at his church in Makeni and I was able to attend that service. This has become such a second home for me that there are always people to see and places to go. Osman’s cousin is building a beautiful home in Kalangba and he came to bring for a visit last Saturday, the house sits up on a hill with beautiful views and such peace, it was a lovely break. We’ve or I should say I’ve struggled a bit this week, life on the mission field isn’t always sunshine and roses, sometimes it’s stormy clouds and thorns. Those are the days I thank God for the wonderful support I have and lean in to what God is saying. It’s not easy to remember “not my will but yours” and it’s not easy to offer grace in the middle of conflicts when you just want things done how you want them done, but when you lean into God it helps. There is a song that has been on repeat in my head this week, I think because I have struggled with some things here, Battle Belongs by Phil Wickham. I encourage you to listen to it, it’s been very powerful for me. I’ve come to realize some of the battles here with people and issues are Gods battles not mine, they are bigger and deeper than someone giving me a hard time about something. We are building something amazing here for God, and not everyone wants that, some of these battles are with evil and only God can battle the evil, my job is to stay focused on God’s plan and leave the battle to him. This is sounding way too much like a sermon, so let’s move on. Today has been a very busy day and it isn’t even noon….. Yesterday afternoon Albert (our school administrator) was sent a message asking if I would come for a tv interview this morning. I don’t know if anyone remembers but before I came to Sierra Leone the 1st time I didn’t have experience with public speaking, now they want me to come in so they can interview and talk with me along with a couple other guests. Of course I went, anything to help the kids. I’ve been told it was really good, I don’t know I was too nervous to tell, but I will include a link and you can check it out for yourself. After the tv program, we came back to the school to hand out some bicycles. This is one of those really fun and rewarding things we get to do! We have children walking over 4miles every morning to come to school so, this morning we were able to bless a few of them with bicycles. We are so thankful for everyone who donates to help us. I will write again, for now keep praying and if you are moved to donate please know we appreciate you! Blessings!!! Stacy
